Tube Lines supports the UK's largest children's circus theatre troupe

The Tube Lines Community Support Fund has donated £300 to the UK’s largest children’s circus theatre troupe – Albert and Friends. The London-based charity has performed around the world and offers young people with physical disabilities and from socially deprived areas a chance to develop their creative potential and raise their confidence.

Linda Miller, Northern line upgrade manager for Tube Lines – the company upgrading three of the busiest Underground lines – regularly volunteers at events and fundraises for the charity. Linda’s son Jacob is a performer with the circus. The charity has helped him develop his physical skills so he now performs aerial trapeze acts in front of hundreds of spectators.

The circus was founded in 1983 and the group of talented youngsters has performed in New York, Paris, Beijing and Hamburg. The money from the Community Support Fund will go towards maintaining equipment and ensuring the circus can continue supporting children from across the UK.

The aim of Tube Lines’ Community Support Fund is to support its employees who help out with good causes through fundraising, volunteering or personal donations. The fund channels money raised through recycling the newspapers left on the Tube to various charities and community groups its own employees support. Since the fund started in early 2007, Tube Lines has donated over £29000.

Linda Miller said:

“Albert and Friends is a great charity that has gained recognition for presenting highly skilled performances around the globe. More importantly it has been a transforming place for children who would find it hard to fit into traditional sports. Helping the charity has always been a pleasure for me.

“It’s great that Tube Lines has a scheme in place which supports the fundraising efforts of its employees. Donations like these can help the charity continue its admirable work helping less fortunate children excel and develop a number of skills.”

Louise Brooker-Carey, Director of Communications at Tube Lines, who chairs the Community Support Fund, said:

“The Community Support Fund is part of Tube Lines’ commitment to giving back to the community. We are delighted to be able to support our employees like Linda who give their free time to support such good causes and will continue to do so in the future.”
