Gordon Ramsay gets a taste for the Emergency Response Unit

Tube Lines’ very own keen cook, Joe Walsh, gets a helping hand from Gordon Ramsay to rustle up a healthy breakfast for the Acton-based Emergency Response Unit (ERU) for series 4 of the F Word.   This is only after Gordon helps the team out in a mock maintenance operation down the Tube in sweltering heat.  Watch Gordon take on the six-strong ERU team on Tuesday 15 July, at 9pm on Channel 4.

Joe Walsh’s fry-up may go down a treat at breakfast-time with colleagues in the ERU, but seeing the grease that came off the dishes Gordon Ramsay was not impressed. He set about showing them a quick and easy healthy alternative to the traditional English breakfast.

Tune into the F Word on Tuesday 15 July to find out how Gordon coped with his challenge of working in the harsh Tube environment and how he won over the taste buds of this fussy team of eaters who together weigh over 100 stone.

Joe Walsh, ERU operative for Tube Lines said:

Taking Gordon Ramsay on a mock operation with us was lots of fun.  He got stuck right in helping us carry heavy equipment down to the platform and carrying out work on a train.  He’s very fit but he’d worked up a sweat by the end of it all.  And the healthy breakfast he prepared for us went down a treat too.”

Notes to Editors

  1. The Emergency Response Unit (ERU) is the Tube’s dedicated team of safety and rescue experts. The ERU, which gained widespread recognition for its role responding to the bombs on 7 July 2005, is run by Tube Lines, the company rebuilding the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines. Together these carry 40% of passengers on the London Underground, although the ERU operates on all other Underground lines as well.
  2. Tube Lines is responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of the infrastructure on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines.  London Underground is responsible for operating the Underground, for employing drivers and station staff, for ticketing and fares, and for the Tube’s safety regime.
  3. The Tube Lines consortium consists of two shareholders – Amey and Bechtel. They bring together some of the most experienced providers of business services with specialist skills in the rail industry, including track and signal renewals, plus project and operational management.  They are providing some of the best project and operational managers from around the world to work on the modernisation of the Tube system. Amey owns two-thirds of Tube Lines’ business and Bechtel one third.
