Tube Lines gets ten out of ten from Investors in People assessors

Tube Lines’ status as a good employer has been reinforced through the company’s successful renewal of its Investors in People accreditation. Independent assessors congratulated the company for its dedication to ensuring employees have good training and plenty of development opportunities.

The assessors spent two weeks conducting confidential interviews with people from all parts of Tube Lines and at all levels, from directors to frontline night workers, in order to get a representative reflection of employees’ experiences.

They noted several specific examples where Tube Lines demonstrates particularly good practice. The £10 million Skills Training Centre in Stratford was singled out for commendation and they welcomed Tube Lines Chief Executive Terry Morgan’s personal interest in the company’s award-winning apprentice scheme.

Tube Lines’ determination to be a responsible corporate citizen even beyond its employment practices were recognised by the judges. They observed that the company is at the forefront of environmental awareness, with programmes such as its carbon footprint measurement, noise management and recycling. Its support for charities, schools and the London Transport Museum was also acknowledged.

The Investors in People standard is awarded to organisations which can provide evidence that they meet ten different indicators, including:

  • Improvements are continually made to the way people are managed and developed.
  • People learn and develop effectively.
  • People’s contribution to the organisation is recognised and valued.
  • A strategy for improving the performance of the organisation is clearly defined and understood.

Accreditation only lasts for three years to ensure that organisations continue to invest in their people.

Terry Morgan, Chief Executive of Tube Lines said:

“We can only realise our vision of delivering an outstanding Tube for London through the contribution of all our people in the business. It’s vital that we continue to ensure that we develop and motivate our people to meet the challenges we face. Renewing our Investor in People status is testimony that we’re doing this, but we cannot rest on our laurels. We will continue driving for improvements to ensure we have a loyal, skilled workforce into the future and continue to attract world-class engineers and project managers.”

In their report on Tube Lines, the assessors wrote:

“This is excellent news for the organisation that has some exciting, progressive and world class processes in place for people development and continuous improvement... Congratulations to everyone at Tube Lines.”
