Tube Lines begins major refurbishment of Osterley station

Two new passenger lifts set to improve access to station platforms

The refurbishment of Osterley station has begun. The 74 year old station was designed by Charles Holden – a famous English architect widely acclaimed for his work on London Underground stations. The work that Tube Lines is set to carry out will restore the station to its former glory and make it fit for the 21st century.

Each night a team of dedicated engineers will work throughout the night when the station is closed to the public, between 1am and 5am, to deliver a modern, clean station with enhanced safety. To maximise the efficiency of the project, extra work will take place during planned weekend closures. This will minimise the disruption at night to nearby residents and also means that progress will be accelerated, bringing the benefits sooner to passengers. The works will also pave the way for two new passenger lifts to be installed at the station to improve access to and from platforms.

The refurbishment of Osterley station will improve passenger experiences on the London Underground. The lifts will particularly benefit those with mobility difficulties, heavy luggage and young children. Walls will be retiled and a thorough redecoration will improve the interior look and feel of the station. Safety and security will be boosted with better lighting and an increase in the number of CCTV cameras, taking the total to 35. The installation of nine new help points will provide passengers with more access to information.

Mic Denti, Tube Lines’ Project Manager for Osterley station said:

“The refurbishments will particularly benefit commuters who travel through the station every day. The weekend closures will help us deliver this project efficiently. I apologise for any inconvenience the refurbishment may cause but appreciate the co-operation of passengers and neighbours while the station is brought into the 21st century.”
