Tube Lines has promoted Lee Jones to Director of Operations following his success running the Northern line, which is now performing better than ever with fewer delays.

As Director of Operations, Lee will ensure the continued improvement of the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines, which together carry 40 per cent of all passengers on the London Underground. He will ensure a smooth transition while new signalling systems are being installed on these lines, reducing journey times and boosting passenger capacity.

Lee has 37 years of railway experience, gained with Amey and British Rail. He is on long-term secondment with Tube Lines from shareholder Amey.

Lee Jones said:

“Having run the Northern line for the last four years, I know better than anyone about the challenges Tube Lines faces. I’m looking forward to building on the company’s successes and working with our teams to improve passengers’ experiences, system reliability and journey times.”

Terry Morgan, Chief Executive at Tube Lines to whom Lee will report, said:

“I am pleased to welcome Lee into my Executive team and see his appointment as recognition of his achievements at Tube Lines. He has improved performance on the Northern line, successfully renegotiated our fleet maintenance contract with Alstom and championed people development and innovation across the company.  I look forward to seeing him take Tube Lines’ operational performance to a new level by encouraging further improvements in the way we do business.”

Lee succeeds Steve Peat who is leaving Tube Lines to join BAA on 1 July.
