Tube Lines’ Community Support Fund has donated £300 to Harris Judo Club, a British Judo Association Club based in Greenwich, with classes catering for all ages and abilities. Run by volunteers on a non-profit basis the club has plans to support national and international competition and welcomed the donation from Tube Lines.

Sean Warren, senior field engineer for Tube Lines – the company upgrading three of the busiest Underground lines – volunteers as a coach at the club. Sean has a passion for judo and over the years he has achieved a first degree black belt, level one UK coach certification and national referee qualification, which enable him to successfully pass on his skills to his local community. Sean applied to the Community Support Fund for funding to help purchase new equipment so the club can continue helping local people to learn the art of judo.

The aim of Tube Lines’ Community Support Fund is to support its employees who help out with good causes through fundraising, volunteering or personal donations. The fund channels money raised through recycling the newspapers left on the Tube to various charities its own employees support. Since the fund started in early 2007, Tube Lines has donated over £25,000.

Sean Warren said:

“Judo is a wonderful sport for people of all ages. Being a non-profit club, all the money raised by session fees and our fundraising events are ploughed back into the club for the benefit of our members. It’s great that Tube Lines has a scheme in place which supports the fundraising efforts of its employees. These donations mean so much to those involved in the club. The money donated can continue to help us promote our sport and nurture talent to compete in national competitions.”

Louise Brooker-Carey, Director of Communications at Tube Lines, who chairs the Community Support Fund, said:

“The Community Support Fund shows Tube Lines’ commitment to giving back to the community. We are delighted in being able to support our employees such as Sean who give up their free time to help their local community and will continue to do so in the future.”
