Tube Lines has completed the upgrade of Brent Cross station four months ahead of schedule.  Over 80 dedicated engineers worked day and night for seven months to bring the 85 year old station into the 21st Century.

Tube Lines began work to upgrade the station in June 2007 with works scheduled to be finished by May 2008.  But by closing the station over five weekends the team was able to accelerate work, carrying out the equivalent of ten normal engineering shifts over the weekend closures. This meant a modern, clean and safe station could be delivered four months early.

The modernisation of Brent Cross station has brought many benefits for the thousands of passengers who use the station. A new clearer public address system and a better customer information system have boosted the travel information available. Wall tiles have been replaced to improve the interior design of the station and a new waiting room has been constructed. As with all station modernisations, a key focus for Tube Lines has been to boost safety and security, with the number of CCTV cameras increased from 19 to 33 and the installation of five new help points. These improvements help to increase the security of passengers as well as better aiding those with hearing difficulties.

Riyadh Alkhazraji, Tube Lines’ Project Manager for Brent Cross station said:

“This is an 85 year old station which was clearly in need of a good facelift.  After seven months of hard graft from my team passengers now benefit from having better and more easily available travel information.  Safety at the station has also been enhanced with additional CCTV cameras and help points located throughout the station and the general look and feel has been improved.  I am delighted with the results and hope the passengers are too.”
