Tube Lines employees helped raise over £400 for the Alzheimer’s Society, thanks to the efforts of Mac McElhinney, Survey & Inspection Manager, who auctioned a giant Spiderman figure to the highest bidder. Over £100 was given by employees and this was boosted by a donation of £300 from Tube Lines’ Community Support Fund.

The Alzheimer’s Society is the UK's leading care and research charity for people with dementia and those who care for them. The organisation relies heavily on donations to be able to maintain its level of support for Alzheimer’s sufferers.

Mac McElhinney, Tube Lines Survey & Inspection Manager, said:

“After finding out how much the Alzheimer’s Society helps people suffering from the disease and their families in their time of need, I decided to raise money to help them continue their good work.  I decided to auction the Spiderman figure to raise as much money as possible. The amount raised was further boosted by generous donations from colleagues and the Community Support Fund. It is great that Tube Lines has a scheme in place, which is able to support good causes.”

Louise Brooker-Carey, Director of Communications at Tube Lines, who chairs the Community Support Fund, said:

“We’re proud of Mac for helping such a good cause and hope the money Tube Lines has donated helps spur him on to continue his support for this cause. We arepleased to be able to support charities like the Alzheimer’s Society through our employees who go out of their way to raise awareness and money for good causes.”

Tube Lines, the company responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of the infrastructure on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines, launched the Community Support Fund as part of its ‘Go Green’ and community investment programme. The scheme aims to boost the fundraising efforts of employees.

The fund channels money raised through recycling the newspapers left on the Tube to various charities chosen by employees. Since the fund started in early 2007, Tube Lines has donated over £30,000 to charity from the money generated through recycling activities.
