About Tube Lines

Tube Lines is the company responsible for rebuilding the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines under a 30-year contract with London Underground.
These are three of the busiest lines on the Underground and some of the most heavily-used transport arteries in the UK.
Almost two million passengers a day and over 500 million a year use our lines.
Over the first seven and a half years of our 30-year contract, Tube Lines is spending over £4.5 billion in rebuilding and upgrading stations, trains, signals and track.
London Underground is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Tube, for employing drivers and station staff and for ticketing and fares.
Tube Lines has two shareholders – Amey, which is part of Grupo Ferrovial, and Bechtel Inc.
Tube Lines is responsible for:
• 320km of track
• 255 trains
• 100 stations
• 2,395 bridges and structures
• 71 lifts
• 227 escalators
During the first seven and a half years of our 30-year contract, as part of the largest improvement programme the Tube has ever seen, we are:
• Upgrading 97 of our 100 stations
• Adding 59 new carriages and four new trains to the Jubilee line – completed early 2006
• Replacing the signalling systems on the Jubilee line
• Preparing to replace the entire signalling system on the Northern line
• Improving the reliability of the Piccadilly line and the system as a whole
• Upgrading the condition of the track on all three lines
• Delivering a better travelling environment – clean, free from graffiti, with enhanced personal safety for passengers.
