Environmental policy

The policy of Tube Lines Limited is to comply with the spirit as well as the letter of environment legislation, associated codes of practice, authoritative guidance literature and other requirements to which Tube Lines subscribes.

Tube Lines is responsible for the management, maintenance and improvement of all rail infrastructure and assets associated with the operation of the underground railway services on London Underground’s Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines.

We recognise that effective management of the environment is an essential and integral part of business management and will treat the environment in equal priority to other business requirements.

Tube Lines supports the environment policy of London Underground Limited.

Tube Lines is committed to continuous improvement of environmental performance and actively strives to secure the co-operation and involvement of employees at all levels.

In particular improvement will be focused on the following policy objectives:
• ensuring that Tube Lines complies with all applicable UK and European environmental legislation and other requirements
• implementing and maintaining an ISO 14001* certified Environment Management System (Go Green) appropriate to Tube Lines’ activities, products and services
• preventing noise and nuisance from our activities using best practicable means
• reducing waste production and disposal of wastes to landfill
• preventing pollution and reducing emissions
• working towards the more sustainable use of resources
• conserving and safeguarding flora, fauna and heritage.

Tube Lines will prepare an annual environmental improvement plan, which will include targets to support the policy and business objectives. The necessary personnel and financial resources will be allocated to assist the company in meeting these objectives and targets. We will monitor, audit and review our environmental performance and the effectiveness of the company’s environment management system (Go Green) on an annual basis and report this publicly. In support of this approach, Tube Lines will continue to raise the levels of environmental awareness and competence throughout its workforce and suppliers.
