Quote

“Go Green’s success is reflected in the number of employees, as well as the Environment team, working to improve environmental performance. Our 2007 employee survey identified that 89 per cent of employees believe we are an environmentally responsible company. Again, there have been some great examples of people in the business delivering real improvements this year.”

Tube Lines Environment and Community Report 2007

The footfall gets lighter

Welcome to the fourth annual environment and community report from Tube Lines, the company rebuilding the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines in partnership with London Underground.

On this site, we review Tube Lines’ performance for 2007, illustrating how the company is modifying its activities, striving to minimise its environmental impact and enhancing the way in which it engages with local communities.

We have come a long way. Since achieving ISO 14001 certification for Go Green – our environmental management system – in 2005, we have been focusing on improving our environmental performance as we continue to carry out essential construction and maintenance work across the capital.

By 2006 this had become a fundamental part of the way Tube Lines does business and environmental objectives were included on the list of annual corporate strategic goals for the first time. In 2007 we set additional stretching environmental objectives, meeting and exceeding these goals.

A major highlight of the year was our work to calculate our carbon footprint, carried out in conjunction with the Carbon Trust. This was a significant step forwards as it enabled us to measure our overall environmental impact as a company for the first time.

Our objective for 2008 is to reduce that footprint by 5,000 tonnes, or approximately 6 per cent.

In terms of community relations, we have been improving the way in which we handle complaints from residents and widened the activities we undertake to put something back into the communities we serve.
