Beacon sites

The beacon site scheme was introduced in 2006 by Tube Lines to encourage and acknowledge excellence in health and safety and promote good practice in our work sites. Sites are awarded beacon status following an internal audit if they can demonstrate excellence in working practices in six key areas:

  1. Safety
  2. Environment – having in place effective measures to reduce construction noise, waste, recycle and protect local wildlife
  3. Cleanliness
  4. Consideration for our neighbours, the general public and people working at or visiting the site
  5. Management and values – managing the site well and ensuring the highest standards of welfare for the employees and contractors on site
  6. Site specific – tailoring work practices to the specific local environment
