Sustainability

Tube Lines is determined to increase the use of sustainable materials in its projects. In 2006, we installed London’s largest single membrane green roof (see image above) – the first on a railway building – on the new £14m Northern line control centre which will house state-of-the-art signalling equipment.

The roof has bedded in so well that we will also be installing one on our new Stratford train crew accommodation building. The new building at Stratford will be clad in copper and renewable Siberian larch wood, and waste sheep’s wool will be used for insulation.
