Role and responsibilities:

To undertake driving duties in a safe and professional manner at times in support of haulage operations and a new established valet service for a fleet of welfare vehicles.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Drive vehicles within scope of driving licences. Carry out duties at any location, as required by management, and assist customers in duties requiring the operation of specialist equipment.
  • Carry out specialised duties, as in accord with the terms of negotiated framework agreement, i.e. When not driving assisting customers in general labouring duties.
  • To load and unload vehicles - using physical strength and equipment provided, in a safe manner. Ensuring compliance with road legislation in relation to vehicle loads and content of loads.
  • Responsible for the safety of staff and the public when carrying out operations and for the direction of the public under emergency conditions.
  • Ensure the vehicles under their control are checked, clean and road worthy. Identify faults and accident damage to Managers via set forms. Report all incidents to immediately after they occur in the approved manner. Carry out pre-use inspection of vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure the security of the vehicle and safe custody of the loads transported.
  • To complete all documents and records in relation to drivers’ duties, log sheets, tachographs, incidents and health and safety matters in the timescales directed.
  • To assist other drivers and staff in their work. as and when required, covering all other posts within Distribution Services’ operational grades for which they are capable and trained.

 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Essential must hold a full driving licence minimum Class B  
  • LGV C1 highly desirable   
  • A valid counterbalance forklift licence desirable
  • Knowledge of current Road Transport and Waste Management related legislation
  • Vehicle Valeting  (desirable)
  • Competent in Manual Handling
  • Operation of vehicle loading facilities, i.e. taillifts, pallet trucks, trolleys etc.
  • Health & Safety at Work (NVQ1)
  • Load Security and distribution.
  • Carriage of Dangerous Goods (desirable)
  • Slinger/Banksman
  • Other desired competencies are:-

  • Machine Room Awareness
  • First Aid Emergency
  • COSHH
  • Fire & Safety
  • Loading / unloading heavy plant and equipment (desirable)
