Role and Responsibilities:

Distribution Services (DSM) provides road haulage, car and light commercial vehicle fleet management and waste services to a number of major clients including Transport for London, Metronet Rail and Tube Lines Limited. DSM Procurement arranges contracts with suppliers to support these operations. The post holder is responsible for managing a range of these (sub) contracts associated in particular with waste and scrap disposal.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage client requests for subcontract waste services including  regular and ad-hoc scrap sale and removal
  • Identify and develop potential income sources from “any waste with potential to financial resale value”
  • Assist in schemes to identify and develop cost-effective re-use or re-cycling of client waste products
  • Ensure contractor compliance with relevant legislation and conduct assurance checks on contractor processes to ensure quality, commercial safety and environmental integrity is maintained
  • Ensure contract conditions, in particular with regard to prices paid, are met
  • Contribute to Procurement contract sourcing and orders by supplier and market assessment process.
  • Advise clients on duty of care compliance as well as security and collection implications of scrap appropriate to product
  • Provide assurance that  all collections are accounted for.
  • Ensure that income generated from sales of scrap is received and allocated to client accounts
  • Maintain records of all transactions and retain copies of defined documents (eg, weighbridge tickets, sales notes and waste transfer notes) for inspection by clients as required.
  • Prepare management information as required by customers

 

Required Skills and Experience:

Essential

  • Previous contract management experience
  • Sound Commercial Judgement
  • Some knowledge of contract conditions
  • Some knowledge of waste and environmental legislation
  • Effective communication and numeracy skills
  • Auditing Skills
  • Concern for Quality
  • Proven track record in process improvement and customer service
  • Clean Driving licence

 

Desirable

  • Previous work in, or associated with, scrap/re-cycling industry and waste industry
  • Re-cycling initiatives involvement
  • Understanding of client’s requirements
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good Computing skills – Excel and Word
